About Us

Both of us travelled from an early age growing up overseas, Sue in Oman and Adrian in Algeria. When we met in London our love of travelling and career changes had shown us a lot of the world. Our desire to escape the city more for quieter weekends would often take us to Pembrokeshire. Our thoughts on the drive back home always wandered into wondering how we could stay. We never had a set plan in mind we just knew we needed a slower pace of life and to get back in touch with nature. When Adrian found Llangloffan Isaf he knew straight away that this was the perfect spot to build our lives. What we created  together has grown organically from the desire to create the kind of place we would have wished to stay on our own escapes.

The House

The oldest part of the house dates back to when the Flemish chimney was built around 1530. The old dairy (now our kitchen) would have been built shortly after and the west side of the house in the mid 1700s. The final grander Georgian front was added in the 1860s around the same time as renovation works on the chapel across the road.

Many of the Pembrokeshire farmhouses were built using wood from shipwrecks of which there were many on this wild coastline. The Charles Holmes wrecked in 1859 and we believe timbers from the auction on the beach at Aberbach were brought here to construct the front part of the house. You can see the old beam over the walk-in fireplace also has peg holes from its original life as part of a ship.

In addition to the farmhouse there were 16 buildings, the old cow sheds, mill and granary and remnants of an orchard with an ancient damson tree, rambling gooseberry bushes and heaps of heritage daffodils and snowdrops.

The Refurb

We lived the grand designs life in a caravan in the yard for a year and a half. Sue learnt to look away as Adrian dropped the crumbling roof single handedly. The spring running through the cellar was diverted to the pond and from there it took us three years to finish the main house, doing as much of it as we could ourselves.

Two of the bedrooms, Mabel and Brinley, are named after the last couple to live here from the 1970’s, and one after Barney our golden retriever who’s pawprint will foverer be in the kitchen floor. We welcomed our first guests to the B&B in June 2022. We had no idea what to expect but have loved it from day one.

After all the hard work we are so happy to share what we have created with like minded souls looking for an escape from the grind of daily life or a base to explore the magical surroundings.
